The Pattern

1. Flower Center (Make 2)

First Half

  1. Make a MR.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in MR. Pull tight, join with sl st.
  3. Round 2: Inc in each st (12 sc).
  4. Round 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18 sc).

  • Working through the BLO of the front, and both loops of the back, sc together all the way around (18 sc), joining both pieces.

Now you have a plump, joined center for your flower.

3. Front Flower Petals (Worked into Front Loops)

Now your flower is layered and 3D!

  3. Continue down the opposite side of the chain:
    • 2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr, 3 dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc.
  4. Sl st to the first sc, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

The leaf is gently curved and shaped on both sides.

  1. MR, 6 sc into ring.
  2. Round 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 3 times (9 sc).
  3. Rounds 3-15: 1 sc in each st (9 sc per round).
  4. Round 16: 1 sl st in each st around (9 sl st).
  5. Fasten off, weave in ends.

This tube fits over the pencil, keeping your topper snug and secure.

7. Assembly & Finishing

  1. Sew flower to the top of the pencil tube.
  2. Attach leaf by sewing to the stem or side of flower as desired.
  3. Slide tube over pencil-make sure it's snug and well-positioned.
  4. Carefully finish and hide all thread ends (use lighter if using suitable thread, or weave in ends with needle).

All parts come together to make a cheerful, plush flower pencil topper. Great job!
